Get support from us.

We provide support for refugees, people seeking asylum, and vulnerable migrants to help you and your family settle in London. Please note: we work with clients who are referred to us from our partners the Refugee Council and Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network. If you are receiving support these organisations and would like to receive support, please get in touch with your case worker or your main point of contact and request a referral to Friends of Refugees London.

We offer befriending and advocacy services, including:

  • Help with everyday life: this is far-ranging, from help getting to know London to finding out where to buy ingredients, from registering for local sports facilities to travelling on the public transport network.

  • Support with English language: our volunteers can support your language skills through informal conversations to help you and your family members build your confidence in day-to-day English.

  • Building links with the community: Many of our volunteers are well connected with their local community including faith institutions, parenting groups, hobbies, sports and more. They can support you to find out how you can get involved and meet new people within your community.

  • Support for official engagements and events: we can accompany you to interviews or meetings, or provide support for employment interviews.

  • Taking part in activities and new experiences: as well as informal meetings with our volunteers over coffee or lunch, we also organise group visits to local places of interest (galleries, museums, parks, for example) or group events such as community meetings or meals.

We are based in the London Borough of Lewisham, and we will initially be working in this area.
